  1. A

Here's a joke, an old chestnut but funny. Stirlitz stared at one point for a long time, then at another... 'A colon,' Stirlitz guessed.

  2. B

And then what? I must have missed something: what's the colon got to do with it?

  3. A

But that's the whole point! 'Staring at one point' means being lost in thought, but he was literally gawping at dots.

  4. B

Uh-huh... And why would a spy gawp at dots? He's got a mission, he's got no time for punctuation.

  5. A

What's the mission got to do with it, it's a pun! How can I spell it out for you... did you do Russian at school?

  6. B

I did, got top marks. But your Stirlitz is an odd one: first he stares at one point, then at another.

  7. A

Look, I'm drawing it in ketchup: a dot, another dot, together a colon. Well, has it finally sunk in?

  8. B

It has. Only a joke that has to be spelled out for ten minutes isn't a joke any more, it's a lecture on punctuation.

  9. A

But the whole country knows it by heart! You're the only slowcoach in all of Novosibirsk.

  10. B

Now that's funny! Look at your tie: while you were drawing, you dripped two drops of ketchup on it, a perfect colon!
