   Stop! Colleagues, according to the score the bassoon comes in at bar four, and I hear a deathly silence.

   I do beg your pardon, Leonid Arkadyevich! They closed the bridge, I ran all the way from the Dvina, instrument and all.

   Bassoons are never simple, Leonid Arkadyevich, any Bulgakov scholar will tell you. It's no accident that Bulgakov's Koroviev doubles as Fagot, the Bassoon.
