Day 117: The Path Across the New Lawn

In a courtyard in Barnaul in spring, the janitor stops a resident who is crossing the lawn.

    Молодой человек, вы куда по газону? Я здесь только вчера траву посеял!

    Young man, where do you think you're going across the lawn? I only sowed the grass here yesterday!

  2. B

    Извините, но здесь все ходят. Так к остановке в два раза короче.

    Sorry, but everyone walks here. It's half the distance to the bus stop this way.

    Мало ли кто ходит! Посеянную траву жалко, я её с утра поливал.

    Who cares who walks here! I feel sorry for the grass I sowed, I watered it this morning.

    Понимаю, хотя по ней всё равно будут ходить. Вон, протоптанная тропинка уже видна.

    I understand, though people will walk on it anyway. Look, there's already a path worn through.

    Вижу. Несмотря на ленточку, всё равно лезут: народная тропа, одним словом.

    I see it. They climb through despite the tape: a path made by the people, in a word.

  6. B

    А может, вместо того чтобы воевать с тропой, положить там плитку?

    Maybe, instead of fighting the path, you could lay paving stones along it?

    А ведь это мысль, у меня как раз плитка осталась. Через неделю приходите, принимайте работу!

    Now that's an idea, I happen to have some paving stones left. Come back in a week and inspect the work!
