Day 29: Splitting the Gas Money

Before a road trip from Moscow to Kazan, three friends sit down to work out the cost of gas.

    Считаем: до Казани восемьсот километров, бензина туда-обратно уйдёт тысяч на девять.

    Let's work it out: it's eight hundred kilometers to Kazan, gas there and back will come to about nine thousand.

  2. B

    Значит, поровну, по три тысячи с каждого. Всё просто.

    So we split it evenly, three thousand each. Simple.

  3. A

    Не совсем: машина-то моя, она тоже изнашивается. Было бы честно накинуть по тысяче.

    Not quite: the car is mine, and it wears out too. It would be fair to add a thousand each.

  4. C

    По тысяче за износ? Ну ты и бизнесмен, Лёха.

    A thousand each for wear and tear? Some businessman you are, Lyokha.

  5. B

    Вообще-то справедливо, поскольку машина его. Я за.

    Actually it's fair, since it's his car. I'm in.

  6. C

    Ладно. Но при условии, что за еду в дороге платим мы.

    All right. But on one condition: the food on the road is on us.
