Day 91: Not a Vacuum Cleaner for Mom

In a shopping mall in Vitebsk a few days before the Eighth of March, a boy and his father are choosing a present for his mother.

    Пап, смотри, какой пылесос! Давай подарим его маме на Восьмое марта?

    Dad, look at this vacuum cleaner! Shall we give it to Mom for the Eighth of March?

    Пылесос мама и сама купит, если надо. Подарок ведь от всей души дарят, а не для хозяйства.

    A vacuum cleaner Mom can buy herself if she needs one. A present comes from the heart, you know, it's not for the housework.

    Но она же сама жаловалась, что старый пылесос плохо тянет.

    But she complained herself that the old vacuum doesn't pick up well.

    Представь: у тебя день рождения, а тебе дарят швабру. Обрадовался бы?

    Imagine: it's your birthday and someone gives you a mop. Would you be happy?

    Нет... А если, вместо того чтобы дарить пылесос, я сам всё уберу?

    No... And what if, instead of giving her a vacuum cleaner, I do all the cleaning myself?

    Вот это другое дело! А если ещё и завтрак приготовишь, мама будет на седьмом небе.

    Now that's more like it! And if you make her breakfast too, Mom will be over the moon.

    Точно: блины, цветы и чистая квартира. А пылесосить буду старым!
