The retake, as far as I remember, was yesterday, and you, oddly enough, were nowhere to be seen.

Так уж получилось... Дело в том, что будильник, как назло, сломался, а потом автобус намертво застрял в пробке.
It just happened that way... The thing is, my alarm clock broke, as luck would have it, and then the bus got completely stuck in a traffic jam.

А ещё накануне у меня поднялась температура, соседа по общежитию как раз отчислили, и я полночи его утешал.
Also, the day before I had a temperature, my roommate had just been expelled, and I spent half the night consoling him.
