   Right, everyone listen! See that cloud with the white roll over Valaam? That's a squall, it'll be here in about five minutes.

   Вижу, Михалыч. Ветер уже заходит, по воде тёмная рябь пошла. Что делаем?

   I see it, Mikhalych. The wind's already shifting, there's dark ripple on the water. What do we do?

   Всем надеть жилеты! Стаксель убрать, на гроте взять риф. Олег, сидишь у лебёдки и без команды ничего не трогаешь.

   Life jackets on, everyone! Down the jib, reef the main. Oleg, you sit by the winch and don't touch anything without an order.

   Понял, не трогаю! Только скажи, какая из этих верёвок шкот, а то я с утра путаю.

   Got it, not touching! Just tell me which of these ropes is the sheet, I've been mixing them up since the morning.

   На яхте верёвок нет, есть концы. Синий это стаксель-шкот, а красный фал, его вообще не касайся.

   There are no ropes on a yacht, there are lines. The blue one's the jib sheet, and the red one's a halyard, don't even touch that.

   Рифим грот, быстро! Олег, пригнись, гик над головой! Шкот трави, когда скажу, не раньше.

   Reefing the main, quick! Oleg, duck, the boom's over your head! Ease the sheet when I say, not before.

   Whoa, look at her heel! Are we going to capsize? I can only doggy-paddle, by the way.

   Килевая яхта не переворачивается, запомни. Трави! Ещё! Всё, держим, приводимся к ветру.

   A keelboat doesn't capsize, remember that. Ease! More! That's it, hold her, we're heading up into the wind.

   Михалыч, кажется, проходит. Ветер стихает, над Валаамом уже солнце, а у нас в кокпите воды по щиколотку.

   Mikhalych, looks like it's passing. The wind's dropping, there's already sun over Valaam, and we've got ankle-deep water in the cockpit.

    Вот так Ладога и встречает новичков: пять минут ада, и опять курорт. Олег, живой? Ну, с крещением тебя.

    That's how Ladoga welcomes newcomers: five minutes of hell, and then it's a resort again. Oleg, still alive? Well, consider yourself baptised.

    Alive, I think. Now I get why sailors say they "go" to sea and never "float": as you can see, the only thing floating here is my cap.
