At a Saturday market in Pskov, an inspector stops at the stall of an elderly man selling jam.

    Добрый день, проверка. Документы на варенье у вас есть?

    Good afternoon, inspection. Do you have documents for the jam?

    Какие документы? Сам варил, из своих ягод, сорок лет варю.

    What documents? I made it myself, from my own berries, I've been making it for forty years.

  3. A

    Верю, но сваренное дома варенье без справки продавать нельзя. Закон есть закон.

    I believe you, but you can't sell homemade jam without a certificate. The law is the law.

    И где же мне эту справку взять? Я тут каждую субботу стою, никто не спрашивал.

    And where am I supposed to get this certificate? I stand here every Saturday, nobody's ever asked.

    Справку вам в администрации дадут, это проще простого. С ней хоть каждую субботу приходите.

    The local administration will give you a certificate, it's as easy as pie. With that you can come every Saturday.

    Ладно, схожу. А сегодня мне что, всё обратно домой нести?

    All right, I'll go. So what about today, do I have to carry it all back home?

    Сегодня ограничусь предупреждением. А вот баночку морошкового я у вас, пожалуй, возьму.
