Day 166: A Tent Without Poles

At a campsite on the Volga near Saratov, two friends unpack the car and start to put up their tent.

    Слушай, а где стойки от палатки? В чехле их нет.

    Listen, where are the tent poles? They're not in the bag.

  2. B

    Как где? Собирая вещи, я их отдельно в коридоре положил, чтобы не забыть... и вылетело из головы.

    What do you mean, where? While packing, I put them separately in the hallway so I wouldn't forget them... and it slipped my mind.

    Гениально! Ну что, ночуем в машине, не ехать же за ними триста километров.

    Brilliant! Well then, we sleep in the car, we're not driving three hundred kilometers back for them.

  4. B

    Вдвоём в машине мы не выспимся. Погоди, вон у костра рыбаки, пойду спрошу.

    The two of us won't get any sleep in the car. Wait, there are some fishermen by that campfire, I'll go and ask.

    Ну что, дали что-нибудь? Неужели у них лишняя палатка нашлась?

    So, did they give you anything? Did they really have a spare tent?

  6. B

    Почти: дали пару вёсел и брезент. Вёсла вместо стоек, брезент сверху, и никакой дождь не страшен.

    Almost: they gave me a couple of oars and a tarp. The oars instead of poles, the tarp on top, and no rain can touch us.

  7. A

    Голь на выдумки хитра! Только вёсла утром возвращаешь ты, раз стойки забыл.

    Necessity is the mother of invention! Only you're taking the oars back in the morning, since you forgot the poles.
