Day 94: A Hammock Instead of Potatoes

In an apartment in Minsk in March, a young man finds his father drawing plans for the dacha on graph paper.

    Пап, ты что, уже дачу планируешь? На дворе же март.

    Dad, are you planning the dacha already? It's only March.

  2. B

    А когда ещё? Смотри: здесь картошка, тут морковь, вдоль забора клубника.

    When else? Look: potatoes here, carrots there, strawberries along the fence.

  3. A

    А может, вместо того чтобы опять картошку сажать, сделаем газон и гамак повесим?

    Or maybe, instead of planting potatoes again, we put in a lawn and hang a hammock?

    Газон?! Мой отец тут картошку сажал, а ты мне про гамак!

    A lawn?! My father grew potatoes here, and you're telling me about a hammock!

    Картошку проще купить. А ты всё лето на грядках, до рыбалки руки не доходят.

    Potatoes are easier to buy. And you spend all summer in the vegetable beds, you never get around to fishing.

    Хм... Ладно, но гамак только в уголке, у бани. И картошку сажаешь со мной.

    Hmm... All right, but the hammock goes only in the corner, by the bathhouse. And you plant the potatoes with me.

    Договорились! Спорим, к июлю гамак станет твоим любимым местом?

    Deal! I bet by July the hammock will be your favorite spot.
