Day 106: A Call Sign from Far Away

In the radio shack in his garden near Ufa, an old radio amateur shows the teenager next door how to make contact over the air.

    Садись, Тимур, надевай наушники. Сейчас выйдем в эфир, только ничего не крути: аппарат я сам паял.

    Sit down, Timur, put the headphones on. We're about to go on the air, only don't touch any knobs: I soldered this set together myself.

    Рашид Ахметович, а эфир, если по-простому, это что? Звучит как из телевизора.

    По-простому, это пространство, по которому летят радиоволны. А позывной у нас вроде имени: мой, скажу не хвастаясь, знают радиолюбители на всех континентах.

    In plain words, it's the space radio waves travel through. And a call sign is like our name: mine, and I say this without boasting, is known to radio hams on every continent.
