   Hello, I'd like to apply for a first-grade place for my son. We live across the road.

   Is that your registered address? I'm afraid since last year your building has been assigned to another school.

   But that's absurd: we can see this school from our window, and the other one's right across the neighbourhood!

   I understand your indignation, but the catchment area isn't decided by the school, it's decided by the city administration.

   So what, take a first-grader there by bus? My older boy goes to your school, by the way.
