Day 20: A Shared Taxi at Night

At two in the morning outside the railway station in Kazan, two strangers off the same late train look for a taxi.

    Простите, вы в центр? Может, возьмём одно такси на двоих, ночью цены кусаются.

    Excuse me, are you heading to the centre? Maybe we could share a taxi, prices bite at night.

    Давайте, мне как раз на Баумана, в гостиницу. А вас куда потом подбросить?

    Sure, I'm going to Bauman Street anyway, to a hotel. And where shall we drop you after that?

    Мне чуть дальше, к Кремлю, тоже в гостиницу. Я, кстати, на свадьбу приехал.

    I'm going a bit further, towards the Kremlin, to a hotel too. I've come for a wedding, as it happens.

    Надо же, и я на свадьбу. Уж не к Ильдару ли с Алиной?

    Well I never, I'm here for a wedding too. Not Ildar and Alina's, by any chance?

    К ним, Ильдар мой двоюродный брат! А вы, выходит, со стороны невесты?

    That's the one, Ildar's my cousin! So you must be from the bride's side?

    Я Алинин дядя, из Самары. Слушайте, раз мы почти родня, давай на ты?

    I'm Alina's uncle, from Samara. Listen, since we're practically family, shall we drop the formalities?

    Давай, попутчик! Сначала заедем к тебе, а на свадьбе сядем рядом.

    Let's, fellow traveller! We'll drop you off first, and at the wedding we'll sit together.
