Day 21: A Ring Lost in the Snow

On a January evening in a courtyard in Mogilev, a man calls his brother-in-law over to the snowdrift by his car.

    Саня, беда: кольцо слетело, пока я машину чистил! Где-то тут, в сугробе.

    Sanya, disaster: my ring flew off while I was clearing the car! It's somewhere here, in the snowdrift.

    Спокойно, найдём. Посвети телефоном и не топчи, а то втопчешь его ещё глубже.

    Easy, we'll find it. Shine your phone and stop trampling, or you'll stamp it in even deeper.

    Да где же оно... Если Ленка узнает, что я кольцо потерял, мне конец.

    Where on earth is it... If Lena finds out I've lost the ring, I'm dead.

    Не конец, но лекция часа на два обеспечена. Я свою сестру знаю.

    Not dead, but a two-hour lecture is guaranteed. I know my sister.

    Спасибо, успокоил. Копай давай, вот тут, у колеса: я здесь перчатку снимал.

    Thanks, that's reassuring. Get digging, here, by the wheel, this is where I took my glove off.

    Стоп, дай-ка перчатку... Вот оно, в пальце застряло! Держи своё сокровище, растяпа.

    Stop, give me the glove... There it is, stuck in the finger! Here's your treasure, butterfingers.

    Phew... You're a genius, Sanya! Just not a word to Lena, and the banya's on me on Saturday.
