Day 33: Frozen Fish for Dinner

In Yakutsk in January, a local engineer treats a colleague visiting from Moscow to stroganina, frozen raw fish shaved into curls.

    Вот она, строганина: муксун, настроганный прямо с мороза. Макай в соль и пробуй.

    Here it is, stroganina: muksun, shaved straight from the frost. Dip it in the salt and try it.

    Погоди, она же сырая и мёрзлая. Я к такому как-то не готов.

    Hang on, it's raw and frozen. I'm not sure I'm up for that.

    Суши, значит, ешь, а тут испугался? На таком морозе никакая зараза не выживет.

    So you eat sushi, but this scares you? No germ survives in frost like this.

    Ладно, рискну... Слушай, да это вкуснее любых суши, тает во рту!

    All right, I'll risk it... Hey, this beats any sushi, it melts in your mouth!

    А я что говорил! Вкуснейшая вещь, только есть надо быстро, пока не оттаяла.

    What did I tell you! Delicious stuff, only you have to eat it fast, before it thaws.

    Тогда давай ещё. И научи меня так строгать, в Москве всех удивлю.
