At a registration office in Yaroslavl, a young man who has just rented a flat comes to register at his new address.

Hello, I need to register at my temporary address. Here's my rental agreement, my passport and the application.

Одного договора аренды, к сожалению, недостаточно. Требуется согласие всех собственников, причём в их личном присутствии.
A rental agreement alone, I'm afraid, isn't enough. We need the consent of all the owners, and they have to be present in person.

All of them? The landlady rented me the flat herself, here's her signature on the agreement.

Согласно выписке, собственников двое: Галина Петровна и её сын Денис Олегович. Он тоже должен явиться лично.
According to the register, there are two owners: Galina Petrovna and her son, Denis Olegovich. He has to come in person too.

But he lives in Sochi, two thousand kilometres away! What am I supposed to do, buy him a plane ticket for one squiggle of a signature?

Не обязательно. Сын может нотариально заверить согласие в Сочи и выслать его вам заказным письмом.
Not necessarily. The son can have his consent notarised in Sochi and send it to you by registered post.
