   Ух, хорошо! Серёг, веник у тебя что надо. Ну что, Вадик, расскажем ему про наш план, пока он добрый и распаренный?

   Ooh, that was good! Seryoga, your birch broom is first class. So, Vadik, shall we tell him about our plan while he's all mellow and steamed?

   Давай. Серёг, мы с Костей открываем кафе с книжной лавкой: я на кухне, он на книгах, помещение уже присмотрели.

   Go on. Seryoga, Kostya and I are opening a café with a little bookshop: me in the kitchen, him on the books, we've already got our eye on a place.

   Кафе с книгами, красиво. А договор между собой вы уже составили? Доли, кто сколько вкладывает, что будет, если кто-то захочет выйти?

   A café with books, lovely. And have you drawn up an agreement between the two of you yet? Shares, who puts in how much, what happens if one of you wants out?

   Какой договор? Мы с Вадиком с первого класса за одной партой, друг другу на слово верим.

   What agreement? Vadik and I have shared a desk since first grade, we take each other at our word.

   Вот и мы с Андреем верили. Двадцать лет дружили, открыли общую автомастерскую, а теперь третий год не разговариваем.

   Andrei and I did too. We were friends for twenty years, opened a car repair shop together, and now we haven't spoken for three years.

   Так ты поэтому с Андрюхой больше не общаешься? Я думал, вы просто повздорили. Подай-ка простыню, а то от таких историй мороз по коже.

   So that's why you don't see Andryukha any more? I thought you'd just had a row. Pass me a sheet, will you, stories like that give me the chills.

   Он хотел расширяться, я нет, и оказалось, что кто сколько вложил, каждый помнит по-своему. Дружба дружбой, а табачок врозь: это не цинизм, а гигиена.

   He wanted to expand, I didn't, and it turned out each of us remembered differently who had put in how much. Friendship is friendship, but business is business: that's not cynicism, it's hygiene.

   All right, suppose so. So what do you suggest, straight from the steam room to a notary, in our sheets?

   Нотариус подождёт. Для начала одна страница: доли, кто за что отвечает и как расходитесь, если что-то пойдёт не так. Уговор дороже денег.

   The notary can wait. For a start, one page: shares, who's responsible for what, and how you split up if something goes wrong. A deal is worth more than money.

    How we split up? We haven't even opened yet, and you're already divorcing us, like a judge at a divorce hearing.

    Потому и развожу, что сейчас вы друг друга любите. Поссоритесь, договариваться будет поздно, а сейчас это полчаса и кружка кваса.

    That's exactly why I'm doing it, because right now you love each other. Once you fall out, it'll be too late to agree on anything, and right now it's half an hour and a mug of kvass.

    Убедил. Вадик, последний заход, я поддам пару, и садимся писать. А Серёге за консультацию пять процентов и пожизненный бесплатный кофе.

    You've convinced me. Vadik, one last round, I'll throw some water on the stones, and then we sit down and write it. And Seryoga gets five percent for the consultation and free coffee for life.
