   Всё, хоть шаром покати: третий магазин, и ни банки горошка. Может, ну его?

   That's it, the shelves are bare: third shop, and not a single tin of peas. Maybe forget it?

   Ты с ума сошёл? Ира сказала: без горошка оливье на стол не пойдёт, так что кровь из носу, но найти надо.

   Are you out of your mind? Ira said: no peas, no Olivier on the table, so come hell or high water, we have to find some.

   Уж кто-кто, а Ира своего добьётся. Но до курантов меньше трёх часов, а мы носимся как угорелые.

   If anyone gets her way, it's Ira. But it's less than three hours till the chimes, and we're tearing about like madmen.

   Давай ещё в круглосуточный у остановки заскочим: там в прошлом году в последний момент даже мандарины нашлись.

   Let's pop into the all-night shop by the bus stop: last year there were even tangerines there at the last minute.

   И тут пусто, одни ананасы да кукуруза. Может, кукурузу вместо горошка, она ведь тоже круглая?

   Empty here too, just pineapple and sweetcorn. Maybe corn instead of peas? It's round too, after all.

   Кукурузу? Ира меня тогда вместе с тазиком салата на мороз выставит.

   Corn? Then Ira will put me out in the frost, basin of salad and all.

   Стой, а в морозилке-то что? Замороженный горошек, последние три пачки!

   Wait, what's in the freezer? Frozen peas, the last three packs!

   Мороженый? Так это же не то, Ира его сразу раскусит, она у меня глазастая.

   Frozen? But that's not the same, Ira will see through it at once, she doesn't miss a thing.

   А ты скажи, что по старинному рецепту, мол, при Оливье консервов не водилось. Проверять она не станет.

   Tell her it's the old recipe: in Olivier's day, you'll say, there were no tins. She won't check.

    Ну ты голова! Берём все три, пока не расхватали, и бегом, а то встретим Новый год в очереди на кассу.

    You're a genius! Let's grab all three before they're snapped up, and run, or we'll be ringing in the New Year in the checkout queue.
