Grandpa, wait! How do you go so fast on those old skis?

А ты-то чего отстаёшь? У тебя же лыжи новые, пластиковые.
And why are you falling behind? Your skis are new, plastic ones.

Сам не понимаю. Они легче твоих, а скользят хуже.
I don't get it myself. They're lighter than yours, but they glide worse.

Лыжи тут ни при чём, всё дело в мази. Чем ты их мазал?
It's not the skis, it's all about the wax. What did you put on them?

Ничем. Продавец сказал, что таким лыжам мазь не нужна.
Nothing. The salesman said skis like these don't need wax.

Продавец-то молодой, небось. А у меня рецепт ещё с семидесятых: свечка, воск и немного терпения.
The salesman's young, I bet. My recipe goes back to the seventies: a candle, wax and a bit of patience.

И всё? Несмотря на весь мой пластик, меня обогнала свечка!
