Day 16: The Cheapest Ticket Isn't Cheap

In a shared flat in Penza, a student shows his flatmate the cheapest flight to Sochi he has found.

    Смотри, что я урвал: билет до Сочи за пять тысяч! Правда, с пересадкой в Москве.

    Look what I snagged: a ticket to Sochi for five thousand! With a change in Moscow, mind you.

    Дай гляну... Так, багаж не включён, плюс две тысячи. Место у окна выбирал?

    Let me see... Right, luggage isn't included, that's plus two thousand. Did you pick a window seat?

    Ну выбирал, это же всего пятьсот рублей. Зато пересадка короткая, три часа, ночью.

    Well, yes, it's only five hundred roubles. But the change is short, three hours, at night.

    Ага, ночью. Прилёт во Внуково, вылет из Шереметьева: такси ещё тысячи три.

    Right, at night. You land at Vnukovo and leave from Sheremetyevo: the taxi's another three thousand or so.

    Да ладно... Ну хорошо, и сколько итого выходит, бухгалтер?

    Come off it... Okay then, so what's the total, accountant?

    Итого десять с половиной, а купе на поезде тысяч девять, и спишь всю дорогу. Вот тебе и дёшево.

    Ten and a half all in, and a sleeper on the train is about nine, and you sleep the whole way. So much for cheap.

    Есть одна проблема: билет-то я уже купил, и он невозвратный.

    There's one problem: I've already bought the ticket, and it's non-refundable.
