Day 26: Tackle for a Beginner

In a fishing tackle shop in Astrakhan, a man about to go fishing for the first time asks the seller for help.

    Здравствуйте, мне нужна самая лучшая удочка, какая у вас есть. В субботу первый раз еду на рыбалку.

    Hello, I need the best rod you've got. I'm going fishing for the first time on Saturday.

    Самая лучшая, говорите... А куда едете и кого собираетесь ловить?

    The very best, you say... And where are you going, and what are you planning to catch?

    С друзьями на Волгу, под Камызяк. Говорят, там сомы по сто кило.

    With friends to the Volga, near Kamyzyak. They say there are hundred-kilo catfish there.

    Как вам сказать... Сом на сто кило новичка скорее сам поймает. Вам, наверное, что-нибудь попроще.

    How shall I put it... A hundred-kilo catfish would sooner catch a beginner himself. You probably want something simpler.

    Попроще, это как? Не хочу, чтобы друзья надо мной смеялись.

    Simpler meaning what? I don't want my friends laughing at me.

    Берите эту, полегче и подешевле, с катушкой и леской. А лучшее место, между нами, у старой пристани.

    Take this one, lighter and cheaper, with a reel and line. And the best spot, between you and me, is by the old pier.
